The Malta Development Bank welcomes the appointment by the Minister for Finance and Employment of Mr Leo Brincat as the new Chairman of the Bank.
Mr Brincat brings to the Bank a wealth of experience in Malta and abroad. A former banker by profession he recently served as the country’s Member at the European Court of Auditors, a role in which he was entrusted with several high-profile responsibilities.
Mr Brincat is also a former government Minister, having held two major portfolios, those for Finance and Commerce as well as for Sustainable Development, Climate Change and the Environment. He has also served as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, as Chairperson of the National Audit Office Accounts Committee and was a Member of the Foreign and European Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Financial Services, an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and an Officer of the National Order of Merit (Malta).
The Bank wishes to express its thanks to outgoing Chairman Prof Josef Bonnici who was instrumental in the setting up of the Bank and the growth it achieved in its first six years of its existence.
In addition, the Bank welcomes the appointment of two new Directors, Mr Victor Carachi, from the trade unions sector, and Mr Norbert Grixti, from the private corporate sector, while thanking outgoing Board members Mr William Spiteri Bailey and Prof Philip Von Brockdorff for their contribution during the past years. Following these appointments, Mr Carachi and Mr Grixti join Prof Rose Mary Azzopardi, Mr Anthony Valvo, Mr Steve Ellul and Dr Michele Cardinali as Directors on the Board of the Malta Development Bank chaired by Mr Leo Brincat.

Il-Bord tal-Bank Malti għall-Iżvilupp jilqa’ d-deċiżjoni tal-Ministru għall-Finanzi u x-Xogħol li jaħtar lis-Sur Leo Brincat bħala ċ-Chairman ġdid tal-Bank.
Il-Bord jagħti merħba lis-Sur Brincat, li se jġib miegħu fil-Bank esperjenza vasta, f’Malta u barra mill-pajjiż, li beda l-karriera tieghu fis-settur bankarju, u li serva dan l-aħħar bħala l-membru ta’ pajjiżna fil-Qorti Ewropea tal-Awdituri, rwol li fih kien fdat b’bosta responsabbiltajiet ta’ profil għoli.
Is-Sur Brincat serva wkoll bħala Ministru, fejn kellu żewġ portafolli mill-aktar importanti, l-ewwel dak tal-Finanzi u l-Kummerċ, u wara għall-Iżvilupp Sostenibbli, l-Ambjent u t-Tibdil fil-Klima. Huwa serva wkoll bħala Chairman tal-Kumitat tal-Kontijiet Pubbliċi u Chairperson tal-Kumitat tal-Kontijiet tal-Uffiċċju Nazzjonali tal-Verifika (NAO), u kien ukoll Membru tal-Kumitat tal-Affarijiet Barranin u Ewropej tal-Kamra tar-Rappreżentanti. Huwa Membru tal-Istitut tas-Servizzi Finanzjarji, Soċju taċ-Chartered Institute of Bankers u Uffiċċjal tal-Ordni Nazzjonali tal-Mertu (Malta).
Il-Bord jixtieq ukoll jesprimi l-gratitudni tiegħu lejn iċ-Chairman uxxenti, il-Prof Josef Bonnici, li kien strumentali fit-twaqqif tal-Bank u t-tkabbir li kiseb fl-ewwel sitt snin tal-eżistenza tiegħu.
Barra minn hekk, il-Bord jieħu nota tal-ħatra ta’ żewġ Diretturi ġodda, is-Sur Victor Carachi u s-Sur Norbert Grixti, filwaqt li jirringrazzja lis-Sur William Spiteri Bailey u l-Prof Philip Von Brockdorff għall-kontribut tagħhom tul l-aħħar snin.
