MDB extends flagship SME support schemes in partnership with APS, BOV and HSBC

The Malta Development Bank (MDB) is pleased to announce the extension of its two flagship schemes, the SME Guarantee Scheme (SGS) and the Guaranteed Co-Lending Scheme (GCLS), in collaboration with its three intermediating partner banks: APS Bank, Bank of Valletta, and HSBC Bank Malta.

As at the end of 2024, the SGS and GCLS have provided guarantees to accredited local commercial banks so that these banks could give favourable loans approaching €40 million to SMEs.

In line with evolving market needs and the implications of new State aid rules, the MDB has also increased the maximum loan amount under the SGS from €750,000 to €1,000,000. Meanwhile, the GCLS will now cater for larger loans ranging from €1,000,001 to €10,000,000, offering a broader range of support for businesses seeking growth and development.

These schemes offer valuable support for firms across various economic sectors of the Maltese economy, serving as a crucial measure in helping them thrive, particularly as they contend with the realities of the digital and green transition.

MDB Chairman Mr Leo Brincat stated that “The extension of the SME Guarantee Scheme and the Guaranteed Co-Lending Scheme is a testament to the MDB’s commitment to continue supporting SMEs and fostering sustainable economic growth. By addressing the financing gaps faced by businesses, these schemes provide invaluable support to entrepreneurs.”

MDB CEO Mr Paul V. Azzopardi added that “We are confident that more enterprises will benefit from the enhanced terms, which include reduced collateral requirements, a lower upfront contribution, lower interest rates, and extended repayment periods, empowering them to grow and succeed in an increasingly competitive market.”

Details on the extended schemes, including specific terms and conditions, are available on the intermediating partner banks’ websites, as well as on the MDB website at https://mdb.org.mt/.

L-MDB jestendi l-iskemi ewlenin għall-SMEs fi sħubija mal-APS, BOV u HSBC

Il-Malta Development Bank (MDB) ħabbar it-tiġdid taż-żewġ skemi ewlenin tiegħu, l-SME Guarantee Scheme (SGS) u l-Guaranteed Co-Lending Scheme (GCLS), f’kollaborazzjoni ma’ tliet banek intermedjarji, APS Bank, Bank of Valletta, u HSBC Bank Malta.

Sal-aħħar tal-2024, l-SGS u l-GCLS ipprovdew garanziji lill-banek kummerċjali lokali akkreditati biex dawn jipprovdu self favorevoli ta’ kważi €40 miljun lill-intrapriżi żgħar u medji.

Fid-dawl ta’ żviluppi fis-suq u l-implikazzjonijiet ta’ regoli ġodda dwar għajnuna mill-Istat, l-MDB żied ukoll l-ammont massimu tas-self taħt l-SGS minn €750,000 għal €1,000,000. Fl-istess waqt, l-iskema GCLS issa se tipprovdi self akbar ta’ bejn €1,000,001 u €10,000,000, biex b’hekk hemm firxa akbar ta’ appoġġ għal negozji li jixtiequ jikbru u jiżviluppaw.

Dawn l-iskemi joffru appoġġ importanti lill-kumpaniji f’setturi ekonomiċi differenti tal-ekonomija Maltija, u jservu ta’ miżuri kruċjali biex dawn ikomplu jikbru u jagħmlu suċċess, speċjalment quddiem l-isfidi tat-transizzjoni diġitali u ambjentali.

Iċ-Chairman tal-MDB, is-Sur Leo Brincat qal: “L-estensjoni tal-SME Guarantee Scheme u l-Guaranteed Co-Lending Scheme hija xhieda tal-impenn tal-MDB li jkompli jappoġġja lill-SMEs u jixpruna tkabbir ekonomiku sostenibbli. Dawn l-iskemi jipprovdu appoġġ importanti għall-imprendituri ta’ pajjiżna biex jingħelbu l-isfidi tal-finanzjament għall-ideat u proġetti tan-negozji”.

Il-Kap Eżekuttiv tal-MDB, is-Sur Paul V. Azzopardi żied li: “Ninsabu kunfidenti li aktar intrapriżi se jibbenefikaw minn dawn l-iskemi mtejba, li jinkludu tnaqqis fl-ammont ta’ garanziji personali mitluba, tnaqqis fil-kontribuzzjoni bil-quddiem, rati tal-imgħax aktar baxxi, u perjodi estiżi ta’ ħlas lura. Dan jagħti s-saħħa lill-imprendituri biex jikbru u jirnexxu f’suq dejjem aktar kompetittivi.”

Dettalji dwar l-iskemi mġedda, inkluż termini u kundizzjonijiet speċifiċi, huma disponibbli fuq is-siti elettroniċi tal-banek imsieħba rispettivi, u fuq is-sit tal-MDB. https://mdb.org.mt/.
