MDB at the EIB Group Forum 2026
Chairman Leo Brincat and Chief Executive Officer Alison Micallef represented the Malta Development Bank at the 4th edition of the EIB Group Forum in Luxembourg, held from 3 to 5 March 2026 under the theme A Strong Europe in a Changing World.
The annual Forum brings together development finance institutions, policymakers, business leaders and innovators from across Europe and beyond. This year’s edition centred on Europe’s investment priorities in an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape, from digital and green transition to defence, capital markets, and strategic sovereignty.
For MDB, participation in the Forum is part of a broader commitment to remaining actively connected to the European development finance ecosystem. As Malta’s national promotional institution and a member of the EIB Group’s network of partner institutions, MDB engages with the Forum to stay at the forefront of evolving financing instruments, policy directions, and investment frameworks that directly shape what is possible at home.
Discussions at this year’s Forum touched on themes with direct relevance to Malta’s development agenda: accelerating private investment, strengthening SME access to capital, advancing the green and digital transitions, and deepening cooperation between national promotional banks and European institutions. New instruments announced at the Forum, including expanded support for tech scale-ups and energy efficiency, signal directions that MDB will continue to monitor and explore for their potential application in the Maltese context.
Being present at these conversations is how MDB ensures that Malta’s voice is heard, that its leadership is informed, and that the Bank remains a credible and connected partner in Europe’s investment architecture.
